Don’t Feed Someone Else’s Cash Cow and Starve Your Own
There are many unscrupulous POD websites out there so it always pays to read the small print before selling your treasured creations with any one of them.
Our precious creativity is exactly that because it’s our bread and butter.
I don’t expect to get rich from POD sites but I do expect full disclosure and for them to abide by their own terms and conditions.
When a POD sells your designs via an undisclosed market without attribution or link back to you the artist and contravenes their own legal terms and conditions policy they are stealing your copyright.
I happened upon a forum post on FAA about CowCow.com and how they sell artists designs without attribution to said artists on another site called ArtsNow.com. As I had a store with CowCow I ran a search on ArtsNow and found all of my designs from CowCow listed on ArtsNow with no mention of me as the designer. I also read their terms and conditions and searched for any disclosure of a connection to CowCow. There was none, just as there is no disclosure on the CowCow site that ArtsNow is connected to them.
I promptly contacted both companies about their breach of copyright and of their own terms and conditions. They offered no defence or admission of guilt but simply stated that to remove my designs from ArtsNow I would have to remove them from CowCow. They did not offer to give me the attribution on ArtsNow that I was promised in a legally binding T&C policy on CowCow.
I slept on the matter. I wondered how many of my designs had sold on ArtsNow without my knowledge. Maybe none. Maybe thousands. My designs were removed from ArtsNow in less than 24 hours of my complaint. A clear admission of their guilt and a deliberate ploy to avoid legal action. I decided that I no longer wanted to trust such a dishonest company with my hard earned copyright. I deleted everything on CowCow and demanded closure of my account.
I’ve shared my experience with you so that you don’t lose money as I have done. How would any of us feel if we saw someone in the street wearing one of our designs when we had never been made aware or rewarded for the sale of that design? I’d feel as though someone had picked my pocket!
Of course the choice is yours if you are selling your work through this POD or are considering doing so in the future, but do remember these points:
The only time CowCow disclose anything is when they get caught with their sticky fingers in the cookie jar.
No one can afford to work for nothing.
Copyright theft is illegal.
T&C’s are legally binding.

Making the Most of Facebook Promo Groups
I’ve noticed that if I share more than one design to Facebook S6 sharing and promo groups that quite often the same person will comment and share a design of theirs on each of my promo posts but more often than not they share the same design (albeit maybe a different product) on all of my posts which is pointless as we can only promote a particular design once on S6. If we hit the heart icon twice it does nothing. Seems to me that if we always shared different designs on multiple posts from others that we would increase our own design promotions and ratings in S6 searches. So just remember: S6 only lets us promote designs, not products, and they only let us promote any given design once! Maybe a good idea to have a list handy of the design urls you currently want to promote so you don’t waste time sharing the same design twice to one person! Hope this makes sense – if not please comment and I’ll try to explain more clearly.
